Newton Youth Lifesavers

Our Story

Why We Started

Every year, thousands of people survive cardiac arrest because someone nearby knew CPR. We're making sure more Newton students are that someone.

Our Mission

The Newton Youth Lifesavers Initiative exists to close the gap between bystanders and survivors. Cardiac arrest strikes without warning — at home, at school, on the field. When it does, the first four minutes are everything. We believe every high school student in Newton should have the skills, confidence, and certification to act in those critical moments.

How It Started

The Newton Youth Lifesavers Initiative was founded by Heart for Care, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, led by two Newton high school students who wanted to do more than watch.

What began as a conversation in a health class became a full-scale community event. Working with American Heart Association certified instructors, local businesses, and city administrators, the team organized Newton's first free youth CPR certification event.

Our goal is simple: certify as many Newton students as possible, every year, until CPR-readiness is the norm — not the exception.

What We Stand For

Student-Led

Every part of this initiative — from planning to execution — is driven by high school students in Newton.

Free for All

We believe cost should never be a barrier to life-saving skills. The event is 100% free for all participants.

AHA Certified

Training is delivered by American Heart Association certified instructors, meeting national standards. AHA CPR/AED certification will be provided upon successful completion.

Community First

We partner with local organizations, businesses, and families to make Newton a more prepared community.

The Team Behind It

Heart for Care is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by two Newton high school students, Lauren Li and Evan Li, in February 2025. Through Heart for Care, they have been involved in local community volunteer work as well as international humanitarian outreach. The Newton Youth Lifesavers Initiative is another important milestone in their mission to serve the community by empowering young people with lifesaving knowledge, skills, and confidence.
